The murid must keep constant watch on his ego's selfish demands and never surrender to them. Otherwise, even if he has spent his whole life with the Shaykh, they can destroy him. Shaykh Muhammad Effendi mentioned one tradition that makes learning good manners more possible. "يسِّروا ولا تعسِّروا بشِّروا ولا تنفِّروا". Deal with everyone with easiness and give good tidings instead of spreading negativity among the murids.
